MP CALLS FOR FREE PRESCRIPTIONS FOR ADULTS WITH CYSTIC FIBROSIS

David Tredinnick MP is backing a parliamentary campaign to exempt people with Cystic Fibrosis from paying prescription charges.

Currently all adults with Cystic Fibrosis in England, unless they have diabetes or a permanent invasive port (fistula), are required to pay prescription charges for medicines that they have to take on a daily basis, and without which their life expectancy and quality of life would be severely compromised.

The Bosworth MP said, “Cystic Fibrosis fits all of the criteria set out by the British Medical Association in 1968 for exemption from prescription charges.  However, as very few people with Cystic Fibrosis in 1968 made it to adulthood the condition was not placed on the exempt list.

“I believe it’s now time to stop penalising those with Cystic Fibrosis for living longer, which is why I am supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Trust’s campaign for an immediate exemption from prescription charges for all adults with the condition.”
